Award-winning historical manga “Chi”. get anime treatment

A long-awaited anime adaptation of Uoto’s popular historical manga “Chi. Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite” (Chi. Concerning the Movement of the Earth) is currently in the works.

Shogakukan Inc.’s weekly manga anthology Big Comic Spirits announced the development in its 30th issue published on June 27.

However, details, including where and when it will be available for viewing, will be announced at a later date, the production committee said.

The anime will be produced by Madhouse Inc., a studio based in the Nakano district of Tokyo, famous for creating “Hunter x Hunter”, “Death Note”, “Parasyte, the maxim” and other popular titles.

Set in medieval Europe, “Chi. Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite” revolves around a cast of characters who risk their lives to study and prove heliocentrism – that the sun is at the center of our solar system – a idea considered heretical at the time.

The series ended in April, with the final eighth volume released on June 30.

“It’s so moving. I can’t wait to see it,” said Uoto, who wrote and illustrated the manga series.

The 25-year-old author became the youngest artist to win the Manga Grand Prize at the 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards in April. The event, which rewards the most outstanding works of the year, is sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun Co.
