BNP uses Khaleda’s treatment as a pretext for wage movement

The BNP is threatening to lead a movement under the pretext of ensuring foreign treatment to its leader Khaleda Zia, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said.

“They [BNP] want to restore their reign of terror in the country. The population must remain vigilant to prevent this from happening, ”the minister said during an event in Tangail on Sunday.

“The BNP says it will not participate in the national elections… If a party does not join the polls, it is their sole responsibility. The electoral commission will guarantee a level playing field, ”added Razzaque.

The BNP and its affiliated bodies have organized various programs over the past two months demanding that the government release its president, Khaleda Zia, and allow her to go abroad for advanced treatment.

The 76-year-old former prime minister is now admitted to Evercare hospital in Dhaka. She was released from prison due to a government decree that suspended her sentence over a corruption case.

Her family applied on Nov. 11 to allow her to travel abroad for treatment, but the government said she had to return to prison first to apply for permission.

Justice Minister Anisul Huq said that since Khaleda was temporarily released on parole, there is no provision in the law to allow her to travel abroad, and if she returns to prison and presents a new request, the government can consider.

BNP leaders and pro-BNP lawyers, however, say the government can easily grant permission to Khaleda Zia if it wishes, under article 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, but refuses to do so. .

On November 28, members of the BNP chief’s medical council said she needed to immediately travel abroad for better treatment because she was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver.
