Cancer activist Lynsey Bennett said she was “devastated” as she shared an update on her recovery journey.
Last year, Bennett settled his High Court case against the HSE and the lab involved in his failed cancer diagnosis.
She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in January 2017 following a series of smears since 2010 that failed to detect the disease.
In November 2020, she was told she had less than twelve months to live and traveled to Mexico for cancer treatment, which significantly reduced her tumors.
The mother-of-two started taking the immunotherapy drug Pembrolizumab (Pembro), but later found the drug was not working as she had hoped and decided to try returning to Mexico for further treatment. .
However, her trips to Mexico would cost over € 310,000 and she would have to travel by air ambulance and Ms Bennett told supporters yesterday that she couldn’t justify the price.
In a statement on a GoFundMe page created by a friend, Ms Bennett explained that she was looking for clinics in Germany that could extend her quality of life, adding that she was “devastated” to have to cancel her plan to seek treatment in the city. Mexico. .
“As 2021 draws to a close, 2022 already has appointments made and steps towards a new plan to find somewhere,” she began.
“Devastated that when it comes to trying to get to Mexico … unfortunately traveling this far by air ambulance (€ 130,000 each way for the flight alone) is just not possible, even with this which remains of my settlement.
“I however looked for a place in Germany which is expensive but could be a possibility, it didn’t quite like Mexico.
“But the reviews seem pretty good and they have other treatments that look really interesting.
“I have filled out the form and hope to speak to a clinic in Germany soon, although the waiting list for a consultation is at least two weeks. In addition, they are closed for the Christmas holidays at this time, which could take three more weeks.
“And as always, it’s not that I think anywhere is to heal me… but I hope to continue to strengthen the good parts of me ️ and keep me stable and anything that might help me afterwards would be a real bonus.
“A huge thank you for all your support and for always having me in your thoughts, prayers and sending me new and truly blessed information. Much love always.
Almost € 6,000 has been raised for Lynsey since the creation of GoFundMe on Wednesday evening.
