The Lauderdale County Sheriff said on Wednesday that Vicky White, a missing former prison official, spoke by phone with capital murder suspect Casey White in jail before helping him escape last week .
Sheriff Sheriff Rick Singleton said his actions suggest their plan has been in the works for some time.
“There was communication between the two of them when he was in jail and she was still working here,” Singleton told The Associated Press.

Vicky White recently purchased the AR-15 and the shotgun they are supposed to be armed with, authorities said. However, their relationship has probably lasted for two years.
She spoke to him by phone at Donaldson State Prison after he was transferred out of county jail in 2020 due to an alleged escape attempt at the time and before he returned to prison in February for a legal proceedings in the ongoing murder case against him.
Lauderdale County officials said jail inmates told them Vicky White and Casey White, who are not related, had a “special relationship” while Casey White was in jail.
“The inmates who reported to us on Saturday that they were in a relationship, complained that he was getting special treatment. He had more food on his plate. He was getting all these little things that are insignificant on the outside but are very important to inmates,” Singleton said.
The sheriff said that Vicky White had been talking about retiring for three or four months and suddenly filed her papers recently.
“There’s no doubt that it took some planning and some coordination,” he said. “My hunch is that this has been going on for a while.”
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office also released new surveillance video of Vicky White’s patrol vehicle captured moments after she escorted Casey White on her escape from the county jail.
Video shows White’s vehicle at the intersection of Cox Creek Parkway and Huntsville Road shortly at 9:49 a.m. Friday, just minutes after the two left the jail.
Casey White was a passenger in the vehicle as Vicky White drove from the jail to the Florence Square shopping center near the intersection where the new video was captured.
The patrol vehicle was left in the parking lot and Vicky White and Casey White left the scene in another vehicle – a rust-colored 2007 Ford Edge with an unknown license plate.
“It is not known what license plate is on the vehicle, or if it even has a license plate. There is minor damage to the left rear bumper,” the US Marshals Service said Wednesday.
A warrant was issued Monday for the arrest of Vicky White for enabling or facilitating a first-degree escape, which is a Class C felony.
Although she told Singleton her last day in jail was Friday before retiring, the sheriff said Wednesday she was fired from her job.
In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Vicky White sold her Lexington, Alabama home for $95,550 – less than market value – TV channel WAAY 31 reported.
Singleton said the sale may have provided some cash for Vicky White since she left with Casey White.
Vicky White had been living with her mother since the sale of the house, a sprawling 4-acre property which included a trailer and a barn
She divorced a man in 1991 after a three-year marriage, according to court records. He passed away earlier this year. She has no children.
